William E. Friedel, 70, passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born Dec. 14, 1940, in Fond du Lac, the son of the late Norbert and Leone Friedel, and moved to Ohio in 1977. A man of deep religious faith, Bill was ordained a deacon in the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese, serving Saint Michael's Orthodox Church in Youngstown, Ohio for 23 years. He served the parish in many ways and always with great affection for its members. He was also active throughout the diocese and served many other churches in the area. By trade, Bill was an electrician and plant engineer. He held an associate's degree from the University of Wisconsin, Fond du Lac, and served in the United States Army from 1960-63. His hobbies included woodworking, singing in the Kosovo Men's Choir, photography, writing, and storytelling. To all who knew him, Bill was a loving and caring individual. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He prized every friendship and never forgot a name. Always ready with a joke or funny story, he brought light to every room he entered and every life he touched. A prolific writer, he entertained many with his mostly-true stories. Bill forged a place in the heart of all he met and will never be forgotten. Bill will be missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Diane (nee Rasmussen) Friedel; his daughter, Kirsten Friedel (Mark) Roddy of Glen Echo, Md.; his siblings, Richard (Marlene) Friedel of Rock Island, Ill., Ronald (Sandy) Friedel of Milwaukee ,WI, John (Jennifer) Friedel of Green Bay, WI., and Julie (Tom) Petrie of Fond du Lac; his three grandchildren, Grace, Luke, and Kate Roddy; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members; and many, many friends.
VISITATION: Friends may call on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 from 9-11 AM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Followed by a graveside service at St. Charles Cemetery in Fond du Lac. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post No.75 will conduct military graveside servicesBill's family requests that memorial contributions be made to the March of Dimes (marchofdimes.com) in Bill's name.
