William J. Shafer

William J. Shafer, 84, of W10711 Davis Road, Brandon, Town of Springvale, died Friday, April 06, 2007, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born June 4, 1922, in Rosendale, the son of Robert and Berna Hoyt Shafer. On May 2, 1947, he married Barbara Holterman in Rosendale. She preceded him in death in 1983. Mr. Shafer was self-employed, owning his trucking and excavating business. He also was a crop farmer. William was a member of the Rosendale United Church of Christ. Surviving is a daughter, Carol (David) Wright of Fond du Lac, three grandsons; Andrew Wright of Fond du Lac, Matthew Wright of Oshkosh, and Michael Wright of Fond du Lac, a brother, Bernard (Grace) Shafer of Rosendale, two sisters, Jane Splitgaber of Brandon, and Joyce (Lloyd) Pinch of Rosendale, a sister-in-law, Margaret Shafer of Fond du Lac, and his faithful dog, Sparky. His parents, wife, two sisters, Jeanette Rupnow and Geraldine Owens, three brothers, Robert, Dean, and Sidney Shafer, three brothers-in-law, Clarence Rupnow, Robert Owens, and Don Splitgaber, two sisters-in-law, Dorothea Shafer and Marian Shafer, and a special friend, Doris Duel, preceded him in death.



A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 3 pm at the Rosendale United Church of Christ. and the Rev. Laura Hawkins officiated. Cremation has taken place and inurnment of cremated remains will be at a later date in the Rosendale Cemetery. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is serving the family.
