William W. Robl, 68, a resident of North Fond du Lac, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh. He was born October 18, 1945, in Oshkosh, the son of William Violet Youngbauer Robl. He attended Amery High School in Amery, WI. Bill enlisted in the US Navy in 1962, and served during the Vietnam War in the Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam where he received the National Defense Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation, and the Republic of Vietnam ribbon. On May 28, 1966, he was united in marriage to Marlene Johnson at Christ Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Bill began his career in Oshkosh at Ok Tire as an auto brake mechanic and tire specialist for seven years. He was later employed by the Minnesota Department of Corrections as a correction officer for 28 ½ years, retiring in 2000. As a veteran, Bill was a life time member of Bohlman-Grimes VFW Post #1904. He loved seeing and playing with his grandkids. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. Bill was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Fond du Lac.
Surviving is his wife, Marlene, three sons, Troy of New Richmond, WI, Todd (Brenda) Robl of North Fond du Lac, and Travis, also of New Richmond, seven grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) Johnston, Anthony (Bernadette) Robl, Kirsten, Lexus, Shayla, and Vanessa, FaithAnn, and one great-granddaughter, Lacy Marie Johnston. He is further survived by a brother, Richard (Bonnie) Robl of Oshkosh, and two sisters, Linda Polzin of Stillwater, MN, and Christa Kjemhus of Oshkosh. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Darlene Robl of New Richmond, WI, Debbie Robl of Houlton, WI, and Vivian (Ronald) Kemling of New Richmond, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Dana and Terry Robl.
Visitation for William W. Robl will be on Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 11 AM to 2 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Avenue, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 2 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas Behnke will officiate and burial will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites at the cemetery will be conducted by Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 Firing Squad. A memorial has been established in Bill’s name.
